About Peaceful Shores

Dr. Kennedy Knows … Pets Are Family Members

Our pets are important and beloved family members … they are bed companions, sit on our laps, comfort us when we’re sad or sick, and play with us and make us laugh. We spend money on training, clothes, toys, vet bills, special food, etc. because they ARE family members and we want them to be happy and healthy.

The human/animal bond is real and strong and is becoming a greater area of study in the Veterinary community. Dr. Kennedy believes that all vet care should place this bond at the core of all that’s done … and that includes end-of-life care.

In-Home Veterinary Hospice & Euthanasia

Peaceful Shores Veterinary Hospice was created to help people and families honor and say goodbye to their furry family members with compassion, kindness, and respect.

Deciding it’s time to turn to either palliative (hospice) care or euthanasia is a huge decision that can also be full of anxiety and fear. With in-home hospice and/or euthanasia, most of that fear and anxiety can be eliminated. Your pet can remain in their home, surrounded by their beloved human family members.

Guiding Values

Dr. Kennedy runs her practice based on key core values. She always wants to ensure that all people who have beloved pets have a way to gently, compassionately, and safely usher their pet through the end-of-life process. Above all else, she wants to help relieve the pain and suffering felt by humans and pets alike.

Is It Time to Reach Out to Dr. Kennedy?

Facing the end of your pet’s life is a difficult and emotionally charged time. This is why Dr. Kennedy uses a Quality of Life survey to help objectively determine if it’s time to consider hospice care and/or euthanasia.

If you’re unsure if it’s time to consider in-home pet hospice or euthanasia, take the survey and then reach out to Dr. Kennedy to discuss results and your concerns and questions.

I can never express my gratitude enough for all Dr. Kennedy did for my family.  What was a heartbreaking situation was made easier and comforting.  She came to our home, spent some time with us and explained everything that was going to happen.  Her manner, humanity, and clarity made my family and pet comfortable and ready to say goodbye.

The initial hospice consult visit is all about determining the comfort and well being of your beloved pet. Dr. Kennedy will do a physical exam and address any immediate issues; then she will sit with the family, as a team, to discuss how things are going.

In-Home Veterinary Euthanasia

This is one of the hardest decisions you will make in your pet’s life. Allowing your pet to experience the transition smoothly and peacefully in their own home can make a big difference and not just for the pet.

Cremation & Transportation

It is important to think ahead of what you might like to do with your pet’s remains after passing. Some people prefer to make arrangements on their own, or have Dr. Jessamyn take care of this step.
