Trigger Point Myotherapy (TPM)

**COVID-19 Update**

In order to keep everyone safe, the Trigger Point myotherapy sessions are temporarily unavailable. These sessions require the Dr. to be in close contact with you and your pet for an hour, and so are not viable until further notice. Apologies!! Stay safe everyone!

Dr. Jessamyn was certified in TPM before she went to veterinary school, as a way to help animals while earning her degree. This modality was developed by Dr. Janet Travell, physician to JFK during his time in the White House. It was created to help with deep tissue pain caused by trigger points (knots) in the muscle. These points occur when muscle stores up wastes like lactic acid, causing constriction and pain. The Dr. helps relieve this pain by palpating along the muscle, finding these points and applying pressure to release the points and allow fresh blood flow to carry away the waste products causing all the trouble. She then helps manually stretch the muscle to help the area ‘remember’ to lengthen and relax. You will be getting homework- Dr. Jessamyn will teach you how to do light massage and stretches on your pet; it’s important to help your pet stretch and relax to keep the results of the myotherapy going!

In her time as a myotherapist, she has seen significant results with this therapy in geriatric and post surgical patients. The relief the animals feel is often immediate and striking. This is just one of the tools she will use to bring your pet relief during a hospice visit to your home.

The time between sessions is often determined individually by the pet, their injuries and how well they allow stretching and massage by family members.
